Whenever the topic of the roof comes up, one of the areas that isn’t always addressed is soffits. This is due to the fact that not many homeowners pay attention to this portion of their home. However, what some fail to realize is that the roof soffit is actually very important. In fact, it has a wide range of uses for your home.
Here are the functions of a roof soffit, according to storm damage roof repair experts from Hero Roofing:
Improves Your Home’s Aesthetic Appeal
According to experts, the soffit of your roofing system can help improve your home’s aesthetic appeal. This is because once installed, it usually acts as the skin that covers your eaves, preventing your rafters from being fully exposed. Apart from that, you can also choose your soffit in any color and style to better suit your home.
Prevents Pest Infestation
Other than improving your home’s aesthetic appeal, roof replacement pros also say that your roof soffit can prevent pests from invading your home. This is because the soffit can block the roofline of your home, which in turn prevents pests from using them as an access point to your home. This helps protect your home from the damage that pests can do to your house.
Attic Ventilation
Finally, the soffits of your roof can also improve your attic’s ventilation, especially if you install a vented soffit in your home. This is because, with a vented soffit, air can flow throughout your attic to provide regular air circulation, preventing a build-up of excess heat and moisture, which in turn helps you further extend your roofing system’s overall lifespan.
